You Will Be Celebrated

It's my mom's birthday this weekend. She died two years ago. After she died I made a playlist of tunes that felt pertinent to how I was feeling about things. There's some cheezy stuff in there like "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree and Five For Fighting's "100 Years". And I couldn't leave out a few of my mom's faves by Journey.

For the most part though, it's a lot of indie rock tunes. Funny story, R.E.M.'s "It's The End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" popped into my head while visiting the hospital one day. I had just turned 21 and my mother was dying- talk about life altering! And a couple months ago I was listening to "The '59 Sound" by The Gaslight Anthem. My mom was bon in 1959 and I tried to play as many of her favorite songs one last time before she passed. Currently, I'm hung up on "Eulogy" by The Flatliners.
Death is totally a devastating experience- hell, any type of loss is. Life changes unexpectedly and all the hopes and dreams and expectations for that future are gone. But what's great about life is that it keeps going. Take time, feel what needs to be felt, regroup and move forward. I found out my mom was dying and in 6 weeks she was gone. Two years later and I'm still dealing with it. For the rest of my life I'll be "dealing" with it. But that's what life is about- learning how to deal.

Here's this weekend's playlist...

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
R.E.M

Under The Bridge
Red Hot Chili Peppers

Swing Life Away
Rise Against

Losing You
The Dog & Everything

I Will Follow You Into The Dark
Death Cab For Cutie

You Can't Put Your Arms Round A Memory
Johnny Thunders

The '59 Sound
The Gaslight Anthem

Eulogy
The Flatliners

Peace out kids! Don't forget to live a little!

"This is my first visit to the Galaxy of Terror and I'd like it to be a pleasant one."

Hello World!

My name’s Megan. I’m 23 and currently living in the west suburbs of Chicago. I’m in school, unemployed, and filling my time with things I find interesting. Something of interest I do to fill my time is go to concerts. By some standards I go to a lot of shows, by others too few or not enough variety in the genre. I like what I like so it is what it is.

Since May I’ve seen Cobra Skulls, The Lawrence Arms, Dead to Me, The Menzingers, Noise By Numbers, Dear Landlord, and Off With Their Heads. Some bands, like Dead to Me and Off With Their Heads, I’ve only seen once, whereas Cobra Skulls and The Larry Arms, I’ve seen multiple times. I like the excitement of checking out new bands and am always satisfied to see a favorite band play another show.

But who doesn’t feel that way, right? I also happen to take pictures at these concerts. I work my little red Cannon point- and- shoot for all it’s worth and sometimes I get something cool. Other times I’ll take 100 photos and think they’re all complete shit.

Same goes with my writing- some days are epic and the words just flow, while other times there’s more ink in the garbage than on the page. Usually I write for myself in spiral notebooks I carry wherever I go. I haven’t written for an audience before. My friend Steph suggested I start a concert blog after chatting her ear off for the hundredth time about a show I’d seen and showing her all the pictures I took.

So that’s why I’m here. A concert/ music blog with other oddities from my life thrown in just to keep things interesting. I’ll try my best to be candid, honest, and respectful. No bullshit. I’d appreciate the same in return.

On that note, I bid you adieu until next time.
