I saw a Le Tigre documentary tonight. It covered the world tour in 2004 - 2005 with candid commentary and footage from that time.
Right after the movie someone asked me what I thought of it. I fucking hate that question because I'm not quick with a witty response, or even a thoughtful one for that matter. So I made some mongoloid comment about angry feminists and the Spice Girls. Duh...
Of course now what I'd like to say is that while I am not very familiar with Le Tigre specifically, I found the documentary to be interesting. While I wasn't a riot grrl in the 90s and am not a very outspoken feminist, it was interesting to watch the three women interact in the heavily male - dominated environment that is the music industry.
I was raised a nice girl, that if someone said something stupid you'd make an excuse so they'd feel like less of an idiot. The women of Le Tigre weren't so accomodating, and that's what I got a charge from. Here's this group of females doing their own thing, regardless of the undermining bullshit that people throw their way. They use their art, their expression, to unite and help people. And they wont compromise themselves or their beliefs to do it. Now that's punk rock.
Intelligence is the key, but so it crusty and cute. While not the best documentary I've seen, I still felt inspired.
